The Bristo splines of screws that small resemble a cross, Jay. Hard to
fit any more splines in that small a dimension. I'm wondering if you
can attack the problem in a different way, like lubricating the bearing
surfaces with a small hypodermic needle filled with Kroil. There's not
much to the dial mechanism, just a couple of gears and the bearings.
The bearings are just holes in the pot metal of the support mechanism,
unfortunately, and often start galling when a little bit of corrosion
sets in. High zinc content pot metal (and aluminum) just love to lock
up in that situation.
