[ARC5] Users manual update

Bleatings and hallucinations,

Okay, I mentioned that I plan to revise the ARC Users’
Guide. This is where the fun begins and, even better,
everyone gets to play.

Specifically, I want to expand the equipment lists,
the ARC part number lists (some of which I have but
not as many as I’d like), and the Navy accounting
number lists. Some non-system equipment such as the
BC-616 will be included as will peripheral things like
line filters and pieces not commonly found such as the
early VHF units and the R-18 through 22/ARC-5. With
all that, I know the connector lists will grow which,
as we all know, is a good thing.

Since it was never intended to be an in depth
treatment, I would like to keep the detail level where
it is however broaden it some to include pieces I
missed earlier on (as mentions, if nothing else) so
the entire line from the ATA/ARA to the ARC Types 12
and 15 sets are covered – in other words, about
everything that used the same receiver plan form.
(One exception is the VHF ARC-5s which were made by
Western Electric anyway so are on shaky ground here.)
This obviously excludes some sets covered originally,
a situation I may adjust with appendices.

What I’m looking for is suggestions, corrections,
things to include (or exclude) and so on. When I
originally wrote it, I was operating in a vacuum with
only Gordon Elliot White’s excellent articles and the
various manuals to work from. Now I have the web and,
even better, you folks to make it a more complete and
correct volume. Contacting me off list would probably
be better so as to keep the mad rush here down to it’s
usual quiet murmur.

Best regards,

Michael, K3MXO
