Gordon there's a tale that Hap Arnold bought ARAs & ATAs in from
Aircraft Radio right around Ft. Monmouth that was off on some
kluge developement.
Then Ft. Monmouth caved in & approved the ARC design & Arnold
announced he wouldn't accept their SCR-274 equipment unless suffixed
with N for Navy.
You're gonna make me go to History of Sig Corps / Emergency (green book #1)
for confirmation. Or at least support - right or wrong.
Marty
..and as I wrote last week, Army bought Link 6V FM 9m police 2-ways
around SCR-245 (bc-223/bc-312) in early '42. There's a Link civvy
rx here with chassis rubber-stamped JAN-7C7, JAN-7C5, etc. No
dang VT-xyz for those babies that early
Ft. Monmouth reluctantly called tweaked Links the SCR-298 interim std.
& went so far to package Links w. dynamotors as bc-499/500
Ya know, looks like Ft. Monmouth was then the butt of jokes
Bringing up a question. The Link BC-500 FM transceiver is the only item
in the BC-500 series. Wonder why.
