Bob,

J-37 was used with a number of different bases, or without one at all.
Electrical connections were made to terminals on the cast brass base. As issued,
most included an installed 2-conductor cord ending in a PL-55 (although many
keys found today are missing the cord).

J-38 has a rectangular black bakelite base that is an integral part of the
key (and as I mentioned earlier a lever-type switch for closing the keying
circuit). External electrical connections are made to binding posts mounted on the
forward corners of the base. Internal electrical connectors between the key
proper and the binding posts run through the bottom of the base. And no
hookup cord supplied.
