There's an MD-7 being offered over on the 'Bay.
The sealed dyno on it has a tag which reads:
"This dynamotor unit has been sealed after special
mechanical inspection and electrical tests and should
operate without attention during the first 500 hours.
Unsatisfactory dynamotors should be returned to
Aircraft Radio Corporation, Boonton, N.J.,
with seals unbroken, for engineering inspection
and replacement."
I'd seen this tag before but forgotten it.
To my mind, this lends weight to Brian's theory
that A.R.C. sealed the dynos to prevent "green"
flight line radio techs from needlessly opening
the bearings, over-lubricating them and losing
or mis-replacing the spacing shims.
