[ARC5] ARC-5X receiver

At the recent Shelby Hamfest, I spotted an ARC-5 in reasonably good condition with a dynamotor.  Upon closer inspection, I realized that the name plate said it was an ARC-5X.  Looking still closer I found that the receiver name plate and the dynamotor both said the operating voltage was 14 volts!  Are there other characteristics about this version of the ARC-5X that I should know about?  Where were the 14 volt versions of this radio used and are they of the 1940's era,  or later?
