Mike,

I've never tried to open up a DC-8. After years of testing FT-243's for
BC-611, BC-620 and BC-659, 100% of the failures found have been caused by the
brass leg of one or both of the contact plates breaking somewhere between the
plate and where it is soldered into the pin. However, if the dud DC-8's are
constructed like the one in your photo, that (breakage of leg) doesn't appear to be
a possibility. You might however try heating and resoldering the two pins
before opening one up.
