Hello, All -

I'll try to answe Dave's question: What radios are in
the ARC Type 15 family?

A.R.C.'s Type 15 is a VHF NAV system. The military
knew it as the AN/ARN-30. The R-13B (R-445/ARN-30)
VHF receiver component tunes continuously from 108- to
136-MHz, has no dial, and can be used in ARA,
SCR-274-N, and ARC-5 receiver racks without
modification. A later receiver, the R-32 is very
similar, electrically and physically. Both these
receivers can use many of the Type 12 control boxes
that provide tuning, power, and audio control.

A.R.C.'s R-34A (R-1021/ARN-30D) is a 190-channel VHF
receiver that tunes from 108.0- to 126.9-MHz, and can
also be used in the above racks. However, because it
is crystal-controlled, it needs either A.R.C.'s C-81A
(C-3436/ARN-30D), or C-88A (Mil unknown) control box
for tuning.

All three receivers make excellent tower monitors, if
you live near a controlled airport, or want to put one
in your car.

As far as I know, A.R.C. Type 15 VHF Navigation
Equipment is still viable for its intended purpose,
although now far removed from the cutting edge of
avionics.

Hope this helps.
