Dave and the gang -

  I have one of these VHF control boxes -  on mine the lettering is done
in a strange way.  The legends on the 'Bay control head look like those
on my unit.

  On mine, the legend was stamped into the aluminum from the rear, and
then the unit was painted, and then the legend was draw-filed & polished
on the front side.  The draw-filing & polishing removed the paint, and
the end result is raised letters done in polished aluminum.

  On other control heads, I've seen a mix of silkscreened legends and
engraved legends, but this VHF control head is the only unit that I've
seen done in this 'reverse-stamped' fashion.  My unit has these pretty
polished legends, but has the cheesy modern bakelite ID tag...
