On the other hand, a G5RV is not an "all band" antenna, nor was it designed to be. Most auto-tuners have a small-ish range they can match compared to a typical manual tuner. It will likely find a match on parts of some bands (all of 20m, some of 80m) but not have the tuning range to get full power to others (12m & 17m) where the G5RV is further from resonance.
Mine works on 20 & 40 with the internal tuner in my ic756. It works better on more bands with my MFJ949 or my LDG auto tuner. It works everywhere with my Johnson matchbox. That's just a matter of the range each tuner can match. 3:1, >5:1 (if capacitive) or "lots" in the case of rhe matchbox.
