Doug,
You can use a tuner, automatic or manual, with almost
anything.  If the source, (the radio), and the G5RV are the
same characteristics,  the tuner is not going to help, and
may cause a little loss.  In the real world no G5RV and no
radio ever matched exactly.   Try it.
