[Antennas] J-Pole antennas

This discussion has about run its course. We have had some excellent
"Opinions" and some good "theory" statements. Perhaps there is some truth in
each post.

I have no idea how it should be fed to be "Politically correct". Some have
strongly advocated that a choke/balun etc MUST be used to feed the J-Pole.
Maybe so, maybe not. I wont argue with the experts here.

Now for the "practical" side of the argument, I have successfully used my 3
band J-Pole for the past 25 years or so. I built it with copper tubing and
Installed separate feed coax up thru the center of the tubing and brought
the end out at a predetermined feed point for each stub. I have no idea how
this would model, however I have never used any kind of choke at the feed
point of the antenna. I suspect this feed method simulates a Bazooka type
feeder system, and maybe the mast acts like an RF choke. All I really know
is I built it that way and it works great. I used it 24/7 for about 10 years
on my packet BBS with 145.01, 223.58 & 446.1 packet nodes. I hand tuned each
element for min SWR at the three operating frequencies.

So if I defied the correct "Theory", my antenna does not know any better and
keeps on working.
