[Antennas] grid dip meter

Hello,
I recently made traps for the first time. I tried to 'tune' them before
installation
using the tuned circuit measurement on the mfj259b. To tune for highest swr
or highest
Z. Anyway, there is a huge band of Z > 650 and cannot use that to tune
them.
My heathkit grid dip meter must be broken although there is a meter
indication, and I hear
the signal on the receiver, but it never dips. Most likely operator error,
I bought it
used (working condition) and have never seemed to get it to work. A friend
had one back
in 1972, and I remember it worked so well, we could dip pieces of aluminum
tubing, let alone
tuned circuits. I like to converse with someone who has a working Heathkit
off list to see
what I am doing wrong.
I ended up tuning them by trial and error. In almost every case (30M, 40M,
80M) they all were
too low and needed to coax shortened. It took way more hours than I would
like.
