Sam

I use an SGC SG-239 200W Smartuner at home with a closed, full-wave 80m loop
antenna, like you have in mind. An 80m flat-top dipole with ladderline feed
is also connected to the tuner and I select between the two antennas as
required.

The SG-239 is supplied without a weatherproof enclosure and I mounted my
unit in a waterproof industrial control cabinet, together with the relay
circuit to select between the two antennas. The SG-239 sells for about
$179.

I use an SGC SG-237 100W Smartuner in my car and for field stations and its
performance is outstanding. The SG-237 is supplied in a waterproof
enclosure, has slightly better specifications and is more expensive than the
SG-239.

Both antenna tuners are excellent value for money.

Visit www.sgcworld.com and download product brochures, manuals and antenna
handbooks for all HF applications.

Subject: [Antennas] Recommendation for Balanced .5-150w ATU needed

I would appreciate recommendations, pros and cons
for an ATU, to be used outside, that would:
handle power levels between .5w - 100w
(125-150w to have a safety margin)?

Application will be for a closed and open loop antenna
At this point I'm considering a closed full wavelength 80m loop

I plan to use a trap to open the far mid point of the antenna for 160m
making it a half wavelength open loop for 160m
and close the loop for other frequency's (80m-10m)

I think that means I need it to handle a balanced antenna?

I would be willing to do the weather proofing of the unit, myself,
if need be.

TIA
