Large, horizontal loops up at 40 feet or better make great antennas for DX....on the higher
bands. They are great for local work (NVIS) on the lower bands.
While very nice, forget the remote, automatic antenna tuner until you get more money
available....just use a tuner in the shack.
If you are looking for DX on the lower bands, put up something with more of a vertical
component....like a vertical or inverted L with an extensive radial system. There are a few
that do not need as much of a radial system (the double inverted L comes to mind, as does
1/2 wave vertical), but generally require more vertical height.
But, remember....no matter how much room you have, or how much money you have to
invest, you can not work anything with out an antenna......anything will work better than
nothing. Also, with plenty of trees for supports, you can try many different antennas until you
find the one that works for you and what you want to do. Keep playing with different
antennas.....while it can get frustrating at times when one does not work, it can also be tons
of fun.
