Hi All,
Today I went over to that other mobile home and got the 11 Meter antenna I
was told I could have. The park "Handyman" is so busy I figured I might
never see it if I waited, or it might otherwise 'walk'. The other day I was
told there was a 'lot' of radio equipment in the room adjacent to the
antenna that I could have. When we checked somebody had already ripped it
off. I suspect he was a "big gun" and had a big amplifier and "big radios"
(to use CB lingo) as I often heard him splattering 'everywhere'.
Anyway, I got the antenna and 5 TV antenna push-up poles of various length.
The Ringo was mounted just above the roof-line on a collapsed 4 section pole
(40 ft?). Another pole was used for a flagpole and he had three more poles
in the backyard, two VERY nice tall ones in good condition. I brought them
all home, some are in better condition than the ones I presently use for my
antennas ;-)
The Ringo is going to need a LOT of work. It was up for a long time, the
hardware is very rusted, the "ring" is cracked nearly completely through
where it is flattened for a bolt on one end and the aluminum is fairly
corroded. Even if I have to cut that end off and flatten another end for a
bolt it shouldn't effect things much as there is an adjustable tap on the
ring. On top of that I had to cut the RG-58 coax as I couldn't unscrew the
PL-259 connector. A "big Gun" running RG-58? Of course the run was probably
only about 10 feet to where the radio sat, if that. It's going to take some
work to get that connector off!! I may have to cut that connector off and
"manufacture" a new bracket to hold a standard SO-239 connector. Oh well,
the antenna and masts were FREE :)
