I wonder if this is the same effect which comes in to play when tuning an
ant. matcher.

certain point has little effect.

I am guessing that the horizontal leg of the Inv L is primarily "capacity
hat" (additional capacity), maybe that's incorrect, I don't know...but,
being that it is barely directive leads me to believe I am right. So,
adding horizontal inches beyond a certain point (at a given inductance and
freq.) possibly is practically fruitless. 
...just theorizing from gross ignorance.
