Kurosaki-san, Bob,

I have an R8 attached to the side of my house. You can see some pictures
here:

http://www.ab4oj.com/house/main.html

The R8 covers 40 ~ 6m, including 30, 17 and 12m. It differs from the R7 in
that it has only two traps; 30m and 20/17m. The traps are cylindrical
helical resonators. The main radiator is tuned to 40m, and tuning stubs
cover the other bands.

I have my R8 mounted on a 6m mast, and the bottom of the antenna is 3m above
the roof-line of the house. Elevated mounting (3m minimum) is strongly
recommended, to prevent detuning. As the launch angle is very low (approx.16
degrees), extreme elevation will not make much difference to overall
performance.

In general, a vertical antenna will not outperform a directional antenna, as
it has no azimuthal directivity. Its horizontal radiation pattern is
circular.

I have had my R8 since 2000, and am very happy with it. I feed it with 1kW,
and it tolerates that power level without distress.

Cheers for now, 73,
