Hi Alan,
I used to use a MFJ tuner [945] that worked very well for a long time,
but eventually I started having problems on some bands. I opened up the
tuner to see if maybe I needed to clean some contacts, and discovered
the real problems... About 1/3 of the contacts inside of the tuner had
very poor, on no solder joints! I was amazed that it had worked at
all! But, after about 20 minutes with a soldering iron, I never had
another problem with the tuner. I wouldn't suspect the tuner design
itself of being faulty, but I would go through it and check the solder
joints for problems...
BTW, I'm not one to knock MFJ products, most I have owned have been fine
and I've owned several of their products. But the tuner I had was very
poorly constructed, and must have had zero quality control inspection...
