I've seen and purchased some at a local hamfest.
I have also seen them on the internet too. I just can't
remember where I saw them.

Just trying to understand what'cha tryin' to do. You already have a short whip
that you want to mount? (Say, like a 6m whip?)
Much as I hate to say it, head down to your nearby truck stop and look thru
what they have in their CB shop. They'll probably have what you're looking for.
If all else fails, buy something, measure what threads drop into their adapter,
and tap the end of your rod to fit. Maybe using a 3/8 x 24 die? :-)
Or, if you have a long enough blind hole for the whip to drop into, then do
what Motorola and AS did, drill and tap a couple of 6-32 holes at 90 degrees
and not in the same level (different heights from the bottom of the adapter),
and use a couple of setscrews...
