About vertical antennas in general:
I have a Butternut HX9VX covering 160 through 6 meters, and also a
40/20/15/10M dipole and two 30/17/12M WARC dipoles at right angles. It's
nice to be able to switch antennas and see which is best at any time. In
general, the dipoles are as good as, and often better than the vertical.
The vertical may have an edge on low-angle radiation, but the jury is still
out. Multiband verticals are always a compromise, but if you have
limitations, they are not a bad choice. I used the Butternut for years with
great satisfaction, and never felt handicapped. As noted, they are not
great on 160M, being little more than a good mobile antenna, but having an
antenna is better than none.
