I have had a GAP Voyager IV since 1991. When assembled properly, it appears
to be a very respectable performer on 80 and 40. During contests, I have no
problem working Africa and South America using 100 watts on 40. I cracked
the pileup on Heard Island in the 3790-3800 DX (SSB) window, also running
100 watts. 160 is another story. As one might expect, it does not appear
to be very efficient on the gentleman's band. I have made many contacts
running 100 watts; running 500 or 1000 makes things a bit easier. The
Voyager also appears to be a good and quiet listener on all bands.
Customer support from GAP is above average. The few times I've needed help,
there has been a knowledgeable human being to answer my question or to
suggest repairs. My Voyagers have come down twice (1 tornado and an early
March storm with ice and winds > 80 MPH). I have been able to build a 3rd
GAP Voyager out of antennas 1 and 2. Manufacturing, drilling & marking of
parts is an area for improvement. Assembly instructions are above average
if you follow them carefully. Plan to have 2 - 3 people to help you raise
the antenna the first time.
Given my 105 X 154 foot suburban lot, I would buy another.
