Hello Dan,
If you break the antenna at the 1/4 wave points (at the end of the
matching section and cut the ratiator in half) and insert 1/2" copper
to 3/8" IPT (pipe thread) adapters, male and female, at each point,
you'll have a breakdown antenna without worring about fatigue from
bending and straightening. You can even put elastic down the middle to
keep the parts together like tent poles. I've also seen one with
elastic made with 1/2" copper couplers only soldered on one half so
they will slide apart for travel.
