[Antennas] Tiger Tail

I made the best two meter HT antenna I have ever used:
Take 19" of 14ga insulated solid copper wire [left over from some house
wiring projects] and solder to the center of a pl259 connector. To the
shell of the connector solder a 20" piece of shield braid from some old
coax.
I used a pl259 to bnc adapter to connect this antenna to the HT, you could
likely use a bnc connector to begin with and skip the adapter, but I used
what I had on hand. I also attached a wire nut to the end of the antenna
for eye protection...
The wire makes a good quarter wave antenna, and the shield braid hangs over
the back of the HT to complete the 'dipole'. This setup performs remarkably
well, and the 14ga wire is flexible enough to be portable without too many
problems. You can also omit the shield 'tail' without much drop in
performance, but it does help some.
73 & have fun!
