If you can live with the loss, just keep the rg174. But if the loss is
unacceptable [if you want to work long range simplex, etc...], I would go
with the rg8x. The added loss in the connectors is negligible if they are
installed well.
I use rg8x on my 2m fm rigs in my truck. But all of my weak signal gear in
the Rover is fed by LMR400, or 1/2" heliax for UHF. It all depends on just
how far you want to work:-)
