Hi All,
I'm about to install a new 2m mobile on my Tribute SUV, the antenna
will be mounted on the roofrail and grounded through one of the rail
mounting screws. I will install a quarter wave (AS chrome dome) so I
may be able to enter underground parking facilities.
For feedline I managed to find a local dealer and purchased RG174
(very thin 50 ohm coaxial) so I can get the feed through the back
door without too much presure being applied to either the feed or the
elastic insulation of the door.
The RG174 attenuation if about double that of the RG58 or about 4
times that of RG8X, even though the feed run will not be more than 5-
6 meters, attenuation may be problematic to TX-RX and EMS may effect
the car electronics (???) due to the limited shielding of RG174.
I was thinking of using RG8X up to where the RG174 comes into the car
and patch both via proper BNC connectors) together. The impedence
should be OK, both cables are 50 ohms, but considering the BNC
attenuation as well as the overal performance results, is it worth
the trouble ?? or should I just use RG174 and hopefully the
atteuation and EMS will not be much of a problem ?????
