A rotatable dipole is much prefered, but not because it rotates.
Most rotatable dipoles are REAL dipoles. They are flat-topped and
installed at the proper height.
Wire dipoles strung from a single tall support end up as inverted vees.
Nothing wrong with inverted vees, but they tend to be omnidirectional,
vertically polarized, have high take-off angles, and unity or less gain.
Such cloud burners are fine for local work. I have used one on 75
meters for years.
While there is no rule excluding inverted vees from being able to work
DX, you stand a better chance with a rotatable dipole.
However, if you are realy serious about DX work, you would be using the
beam at the top of the tower.
