Merv
Thank you for the feedback. A few years back I started out looking how to
improve the vertical (at least make it perform better). It appeared that to go
from 0.5 dBi to 3 dBi you needed to go to 120 1/4 to 1/2 wl (that is a lot of
work). As you pointed out phasing verticals allowed you to be a little less
perfect on the radials and can gain 2-3 dBi. But phasing had scared me off
(not sure why). While contemplating the phasing I discovered the Inverted
Bobtail called the ROBERT'S TAIL in the ANTENNA COMPENDIUM Vol. 2. I figured the
concept would work on the Inverted Halfsquare. The plus was NO RADIALS. By
George it worked like gang busters with nice low angle lobe and 2 S-unit
rejection off the ends. Putting the Inverted Halfsquare on tripods allowed me to make
this rotatable. The other nice thing was almost a 50 ohm match.

Well, after all this I want to go back and try these other methods out of
curiosity and from a learning perspective. (By the way those looking at the
inverted half square I can email you a simple file that shows the
lobe/swr/dimensions. Note the antenna analyzers really are of little value is setting this
up. I got the dimension several years ago from Mr. CEBIK. These dimensions
were later confirmed as near optimal on EZNEC).

I hope to first learn how to set up the parasitic and then go to the
phasing---THANKS
