Lou,
I've got an 18HT, have had it up for about 15 years...trouble free. I lower
it every 3 or 4 or years and check for any damage, tighten the nuts and
bolts and put it back up for another few years. It is an easy "2 man" job to
lower and raise it on the hinged base.

I have some buried radials as well as a few elevated radials...as with all
verticals, the radials are the secret. It is a great antenna but I must be
honest, I wouldn't even consider buying one at today's price for a new one.
It is a big, heavy vertical...in a class of it's own...no comparison to the
other 100-200 dollar verticals. Mine has withstood some pretty terrific
"hilltop" winds here without any damage whatsoever.

I put mine up per HyGain's instructions and I have probably had more
satisfaction from it than any other single antenna I have. I am very
pleased with it on 40 although it is not my primary 40 meter antenna...it
works very well on 75 and 80 meters....I use a tuner on 75 and 80 as my 18HT
resonates around 3900....at one point I adjusted it for 3505 (I work almost
all CW) and it was great, however you sacrifice the resonant feature on the
other bands when you tune it for that low frequency on 80. I have a second
18HT that I plan(ned) to put up and phase them on 80 but I just haven't
gotten "a round tuit"!
