If you had the coax with no balun at the feed point, from the info that I have been 
given you would have radiation from the coax hence a different radiation pattern.  
This may account for the different results (Let alone propagation for times of the 
year and 11 yr cycle.

Thanks to everyone that responded to my dipole question with good
answers.

I did mis-spoke when I said the dipoles would be 180 degrees from each
other. I should have said 90 degrees. thanks for the correction.

Maybe it's me but I don't seem to be getting the results on 75 meters
with the 260 foot flat top fed with open wire on 75 that I use to get
with a 75 meter dipole fed with coax. That was the reason for the
antenna experiment. I have the space and trees to support more
antennas so I figured to have at it.

I guess the best antenna would be a full wave loop.
