Dear George, et al,

I apologize for a serious error when I said, "In theory, you get
4 lobes instead of two in the horizontal pattern, but that is not usually a
concern."

The sharp eyes of Bob, K8MLM, caught that error.

A more correct statement would be that in theory, you get gain in the
broadside direction of the horizontal pattern for antennas of a full
wavelength when center fed. My statement about the 4 lobe clover-leaf
pattern would be true if the antenna were "end fed". In the center fed
configuration, you should get approximately 1.6 dBd of gain, and if you are
willing to extend it to the double extended Zepp configuration, you should
get about 3 dB. (See Chapter 8 of the ARRL Antenna Book.)
