If you MUST use a PL-259 type connector, you will achieve a more
permanent and trouble-free connection by using a commercial-grade crimp
connector in lieu of any connector that must be soldered. For the very
few connectors I install that must mate with an SO-239 female UHF jack,
I use RF Industries silver/gold connectors. Properly crimped with the
correct tools and sealed with adhesive-backed heat-shrink tubing, they
are far superior to any soldered connectors. Better still, use only
Type N connectors, and convert to a UHF only at the radio.
