[Antennas] 2M Weirdness

Obviously the path is supported by propagation anomalies (probably
multiple reflections from tall buildings, water tanks, cell phone
towers, etc.) Slight changes in temperature, atmospheric conditions and
the like can cause these "freak" types of propagation to change from
time to time.
We had such a freak condition between Macon GA and Marietta, GA. We had
a repeater on the same frequency pair in Macon as the repeater in
Marietta. According to most criteria, there was adequate geographic
separation between the two to allow the two to operate without with only
rare mutual interference. But in this case it was almost constant! With
only 50 watts and a normal vertical antenna operators in Macon could
bring up the Marietta machine, and vice versa. Marietta is quite a bit
farther from Macon than Atlanta, for example, yet it was very difficult
most of the time for a Macon station to bring up an Atlanta repeater.
Finally, we moved the frequency of the Macon machine to get away from
that nagging problem.
