[Antennas] How to break a Faraday GRID?

If you are going to put an antenna on the roof and run a feedline into the house,
why not connect the feedline directly to the radio?

I tried this "passive repeater" arrangement recently on 900 MHz with a pair of
antennas connected by about 50 feet of coax.
They were set up along some hallways in a hospital and intended to help pass a
signal to a distant ACTIVE repeater. The results were pretty dismal!

Theoretically it should work, but I am an empricist. If it doesn't work, you have to
do something else!
