Yes, I replaced my home made choke balun with a commercial balun on my A3S.
The only difference I noted was a small shift in minimum SWR frequency on 10
meters. It was slightly lower in frequency due to somewhat longer wires from
the commercial balun mounted on top of the boom.
Pattern wise there was no difference on any of the bands. I can say this with
conviction as I created a computer program to capture the antenna pattern
using both nearby stations broadcasting a steady signal and those off the air
without their knowledge.
The home built choke and commercial balun overlaid exactly. The reason I did
this was that the beam pattern had a nonsymetrical lobe in the reverse
direction. I thought that it may have been due to insufficient choke action allowing
the feed cable to interact with the antenna.
