[Antennas] Weatherproofing

I plan to construct a multiband dipole and will do the solder joints 
betwween the RG-8X and the 300 Ohm twinlead inside of a slitted piece of 
0.5" CPVC which will be capped with a tee for hanging. Should I use Latex or 
silicone caulk to weaterproof the connections? BTW this is going in a 
backpack for fiekd use, so this is why the 8x instead of 213.
