[Antennas] 20m dipole

I have one for you to think about.

I built a 20m dipole about a year ago and it works great on 20m. It is
horizontally polarized and sits at about 33 feet. I've worked the world
on 20m and 30m, through a tuner.

Now hear this...

On 40m I get horrible reports both regionally and DX wise. This I
understand! Most stations give me a 229 or 339 report on CW. I'm
running 100 watts. I expect this from a 20m dipole. I am using a tuner
for all bands, even 20m for convenience sake.

Here is where I am confused! It works very well on 80m, regionally. I
get GREAT reports on 80m and on 75m. Most CW contacts give me 589 or 599
reports. I very often work nets on 75m without any glitches. When I
work 80m CW, I have no issues. I do not expect it to work well on 80m
DX, so don't think I am confused about that.

Why does this thing stink on 40m and not on 80m? Many stations will not
return my call on 40m, yet on 80m, I have excellent luck.

Any ideas?
