Chuck,
I CAN and HAVE made a dipole...SO WHAT???
I also can build a FM broadcast antenna that could handle 10KW
or more of power...can you??? Well if you cant, BIG DEAL!! SO I can
do something you cannot....OHHH am "I" supposed to be a big man
now?? hardly....but by your posting, I SHOULD be! (enjoy crow?)
I HAVE used B&Ws in the past.....for my remote base operations where
I DO NOT have a tuner and operated the radio via a UHF or phone line
link, the B&W was a decent COMPROMISE....(and we all know you dont get
something for nothing in that respect!) For my HOME operation, I WOULD
put up a regular dipole; IF I had the room for a 160 or 80mtr antenna!
which I donot...but I DO have room for a B&W (just barely..)...
BUT I would run a 93ft dipole with ladder line (IF I had it) and a
tuner (which I DO have)......but again, its all what you WANT to
use it for...and whats available...
NO, the B&W is NOT the best antenna below 10 MHz...its performance
drops off below 10MHz and by the time you get to 80m, its pretty poor
compared to a dipole...but then so is a mobile antenna...FUNNY, I
dont see any mobile ops trying to run a full size dipole...they
use WHAT WORKS....poorly as it may..BUT it works...and thats the
name of the game..
NOW if you have a problem with that, then YOU belong where you
suggested he go with morons.
U wanta talk technical?? I'm game with 35KW FM and 50KW AM (ALL
transistorized/125% Asym. PD Modulated) xmtrs as well as the AM
active tower arrays I have worked on; including the famous 12 tower nite
site (original KLIF)@1190kHz in Dallas! Had to get back to antennas!:)

I am off this soapbox and hope this reflector can return to
technical and FRIENDLY discussions...and not put downs with no
basis for them (as yours was!)
