Worse case:  Once I was remaining overnight at a motel near
Fort Bragg.  I wanted to meet a USAF MARS net in the evening
so I strung a small wire out the window and across the yard
into a small tree.  Used a small MFJ tuner and my IC-751.
The radiator/heater metalwork in the room was the ground.
The net went well.  The following morning I tried to tune up
on a HF ham band and nothing worked.  That's when I found
that all my antenna wire was missing.  Neatly snipped at the
window sill.  Never a word to anyone.

I wouldn't mind asking for permission if I thought any of
the motel people could speak radio.        73  Clete
