[Antennas] Deducing the sign of X (was AEA CIA-HF comments)

Everything that George, W5YR, said about the AEA CIA-HF is true. But be
careful about deducing the sign of the reactance (X) based on a change in
frequency. If you are measuring discrete components or if you are measuring
antenna impedance directly at the feedpoint, it is true that the sign of X
(positive for inductance and negative for capacitance) can be determined by
changing the frequency. However, if you are making your measurements at the
end of a length of feedline you might be fooled by the results.

I wanted to show some pictures with this posting so I put together a little
web page with a couple of charts. Please click on over to
www.qsl.net/ac6la/adhoc/signofx.html for more info.

George (Yellow Rose of Texas) of course knows all this like the back of his
hand, but when I was first learning to use my Autek RF-1 this had me
scratching my head for a while. Hope this helps.
