And what you end up with is an inverted V which is NOT horizontal
polarized hence will pick up more noise...a TRUE dipole is horizontal
and is less prone to picking up noise (which is usually vertically
polarized)..A shortened dipole also gives you less bandwidth and
is no longer the standard input impedance..a folded dipole is 
usually 300ohms input...a shortened folded dipole is not anything
close..and is hard to match...

No, he doesnt need the towers to be 150ft apart....but for a GOOD
dipole arranement, they should be!

Also use of the spacing can come in handy if he wants to use diversity
reception or split band operation and can get better isolation.
