John - I suspect that the common 8 ft stainless steel whip sold for CB will
work fine, but you may have trouble on 40 M if at all.

If you want to work 40M I suggest making an extension for teh CB whip from a
foot or more of 3/8 threaded rod and a 3/8 coupler. You should be able to
find the threaded rod and coupler at a builder's supply store such as Home
Depot or Lowes. Ideally threaded stainless steel rod might be better, but
that may be harder to find.

The 8 ft whips are commonly available. Radio SHack is one source. - Dr.
