THe Jpole is just a vertical Zepp antenna. If one
looks in the Antenna book for the classical Zepp, just
make the horizontal 1/2 wavelength vertical and it
becomes a Jpole.
The bottom 1/4 wave section will cancel the field
providing balanced currents are on the wires, then,
only the top 1/2 wave will radiate omni directional.
If the currents are not balanced then the Jpole will
not resonate! I suspect that the 1/4 wave section acts
like a current balun by itself. Anyone have experience
with not being able to resonate a Jpole until they
added a balun ?
