[N8DE]:  Quoting from the ARRL Antenna Handbook:  "The discone is a
vertically polarized broadband antenna which maintains an SWR of 1.5:1
or less, over several octaves in frequency."

[N8DE]:  IBID:  "The gain of a discone is essentially constant across
its useful frequency range.  The angle of radiation is very low, for the
most part, rising only slightly at some frequencies."

There is NO gain over a dipole, just bandwidth.
