I believe you will find that your statements about a discone or double
discone not having any gain (over a dipole, I assume you mean) are true
<i>only </i>when operating at the lowest (near cut-off) frequency. For
higher frequencies the discone will exhibit considerable gain over that
of a quarter- or half-wave dipole.
