I did something on this late lastnite. Let's see, i think in rummaging around
Ebay, which is designed to make it not easy for you to actually contact
them, I found a link to FCC. I think i pursued the Innapropriate Products-
Scanners and Cordless Phones series of pages, then there was a link to
the FCC database of cerificated products. I did not find the 50-mile
wonder listed there under CE 3-68 or CE 3-86 (both of which designations
appear on the ad - typical semi-literacy). I found another link and sent
my information and query to something like [email protected]. Sorry i
don't recall more exactly- it was quite late at night and i was in a hurry
plus being steamed about the issue. So, if my message really does get
to the FCC, we shall see. The seller, who placed the ad for the cordless,
advised me the 50-mile claim came from their happy customers. I rather
doubt it was base station to handheld, even using the base discone. The
claim does say "air miles", so i think it was more like someone in an
aircraft could pick up the base signal at 50 miles. By the way - the list
of countries the seller ships to, seemingly does not include the USA -
the countries list has something like United Nations - New York. What
a game.
The vending company seems to be U.K. based, but mails from
somewheres in the U.S.A. - which partly explains the belligerent
ignoramus attitude of the reply, which advised me i am a "jerk"
and "moron" for asking about the phone, and that i would be kicked
off AOL if i sent them "1" more note. (Oh, fear! ) I invited them to
forward my notes to anyone. So their legal acumen parallels their
technical acumen. Their militant ignoramus attitude only made me
want to pursue this all the more. BTW, their ad seems to say 1-5
miles in the city. I still suspect this is not above board, in terms of
frequency or power level.
