I've used the AEA and MFJ small loops, with motor driven auto-tune,
both work well, the limiting problem is the inability to tune lower
(1.8 Mhz to 10 Mhz) or only 20 meters to 10 meters.
The first time I used one was the AEA, and I set it up on a
short TV type tripod in my dining room (only the roof/ceiling
overhead, and called CQ and got a 59+ from washington state
from minnesota, and continued ragchewing for over 30 minutes, and then
had a couple other contacts at about the 1000 mile range. Good performance,
but I'd say that most of the signal went up vertically or thereabouts. I
did enjoy using it,
and still am using it for short range (1000 miles or under contacts.
Great limited space antenna, sitting in the same room as you, but only for
the higher bands.
