Hello Chad, IMHO!
I have both the G5RV and a R-7000 Vertical.
The G5RV is approx. 40 Ft. at it's apex and the Vertical is approx. 50 ft.
at it's tip.
They both work very well! The G5RV works great close in CONUS, where as the
R-7000 works great on DX and marginally CONUS.
It depends on your cup of tea - If you want the best of both worlds, then
I'd select a good Vertical (expensive though) versus a G5RV roughly $50.00.
One other important item, if you use a G5RV or Center or End Fed Zep
Antenna, you MUST use an Antenna Tuner, with the Vertical just transmit and
go!!
I hope that helps.

Subject: [Antennas] V or vertical?
Am soliciting some opinions here;
Due to where I'm living, a tower is not practical. Am considering two
options for an HF antenna. I can go with a 50 foot push pole and use it to
support a G5RV or similar or I can go up with a vertical @ about 20 or 30
feet. HV6 or similar type vertical. Ground radials are not possible if I
were to go with the vert. Am running an Outbacker up about 30 feet now on a
copper pipe and am ready for a "real" antenna. I am renting a trailer with
rather tiny lot space. I can guy off the pole, just barely.
Opinions or suggestions?
tnx
chad
