Jim, (et al),
I am not a lawyer and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but I was always under the impression that so long as you didn't use an image, passage, paragraph etc, for monetary or promotional gain and it was in the public domain it didn't fall under copyright laws. But who am I to know, maybe Pete, WA2CWA can speak more to that since he deals with it as a matter of course.
Now your last sentence touches on the 900lbs gorilla in the room or the website if you will. Many AMers, myself included felt that the board was being over moderate and left for more 'friendlier' spaces. I returned from self-imposed exile but only to check up on some others who felt their 'rigs' were cast in concrete and remained and as stated, the board is a plethora of technical information. I remember being on the old AM Window before it being merged into what is now AMfone.net.
Many former posters went to either QRZ.com or started their own websites dedicated to the mode, and some of those evaporated into the aether, never to be heard from again. I could only wish that some, (NOT ALL) of the moderators could moderate themselves. I could espouse on some of that activity but I want to maintain a positive outcome not a negative one.
We are in an era of great change with regards to the mode. We all have our reasons for using it and with many SW stations going the way of the wild goose, areas in the HF arena are becoming more open. There are stalwarts like myself who 'won't give up my 807 until they pry it from my dead hands' and there are others pushing the arena of MOSFETS all to new levels. I think there is room for all of us. But it all has a beginning and we need to preserve our origins and our technical data.
Sorry for the old buzzard transmission!

Mod-U-Lator,
Mike(y)/W3SLK

I have tried to enter the site about 6 times over the last few days, Nada..500 error

I fear that whatever the issue is, a data purge might be necessary to update, and fix the site. Without the 20+ years of data, the site would never recover. Activity today on AM message boards is elsewhere.
A reflection as to why the big posters moved away is only partially due to aging members, and silent key syndrome.
I remember a time when I uploaded an image from a 1930's R9 magazine, and I was warned about copyright laws...Admin said, a descendant of the author might be triggered, and sue. Never a mention about copyrights that all expire, if they were ever copyrighted in the first place. I once contacted the ARRL about the copyright issue regarding posting QST articles from the 1950's, and they would not answer my question. Therefore some board admins enforce the copyright issue, even going back to R9 magazine in the 1930's, much like an HOA Karen.
