There’s a lot of talk about car makers eliminating AM sections in the newer vehicles (spelled all electric) because of the hash. But there’s also talk about EVs declining in popularity. One hears many things, whether the truth is among them is up in the air…..
I drive a 2016 Nissan Murano and it had a really decent radio. The only issue I’ve noticed is some weirdness when driving under power lines. I’m guessing re-radiation from the lines is tearing up the AGC. There’s also some garbage associated with passing Semi’s. I saw someone mention this recently.
I’m responsible for 2 AM’s and 3 FM’s here in Dallas so I listen a lot. We’re transmitting RDS data on the FM’s telling you what station you’re listening to, what song is playing, and who the artist is plus “Artist Experience” that shows you a picture of the artist / album cover. My 2016 is just a too old for the picture bit, but the RDS is fully functional which lets me verify that we’re transmitting the data if someone complains they’re not getting any.
The car has the standard backup camera, but I guess I’m a bit parochial in that I wasn’t aware that cars from 2016 had anti collision cameras and combined those with front and back cameras to give a bird’s eye view. It’s a pretty cool feature but you can tell it’s synthesized because the SUV in the picture is silver and my car is maroon / burgundy aside from the fact that there’s no tall mast on the car with a downward looking camera…….

One was the radio had died, twice, and it was a 2006 Toyota radio that had CD changer, Camera, maps, and I found the last one on ebay, which lasted two years. Could have been the capacitors failing, but I tried opening it up and its a mechanical monstrosity to get to the radio. Anyway, to get to the chase, we ended up with a Hyundai Santa Fe hybrid. Its a clone of a Toyota Highlander sort of, but cheaper and loaded with electronics. We live in Santa Fe county, so of course....

I can actually listen to AM without getting frustrated. This being a hybrid engine, it has a liquid cooled inverter somewhere and a 1.5 kW Lithium chemistry battery under the floor somewhere. There is no HD symbol anywhere and we haven't read the 1/2 inch thick manual for the entertainment system, but there is a button on the big screen above the dash, that said HD data. It selects between weather, highway conditions and something else. I don't know what it is yet.
